Job Description:
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Diagnoses, identifies, evaluates and remediates speech and language skills as related to educational factors of pupils with oral, language, voice, fluency and auditory acuity disorders.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Compliance
1. Communicates with pupils and confers with parents regarding the educational and social progress of pupils. Administers formal oral assessments progress reports and provides other information appropriate for inclusion in the cumulative records of pupils.
2. Develop performance objectives and lesson plans which are consistent with established goals and objectives.
3. Works with the school administrators and other staff in planning and implementing the educational programs of the school.
4. Report suspected Child Abuse/Neglect under current policies and procedures.
5. Maintains records as required by law, internal policies and administrative regulations.
Students
6. Identifies and evaluates pupils with speech and/or hearing handicaps through standard screening procedures.
7. Reviews individual files to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.
8. Develops procedures in the school for the referral of pupils and procedures for consultation with other staff members.
9. Provides direct and/or indirect instructional services to stimulate and/or improve the communication behavior of pupils with special needs.
10. Evaluates and monitors individuals, using audiovisual equipment.
11. Reviews treatment plans and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.
12. Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills.
General
13. Consult with classroom teachers, resources specialist and other staff to, include but not limited to: incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedule.
14. Maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family. Encourage their involvement in the program and support the child’s relationship with his/her family.
15. Use all available resources to ensure an effective program operation. Organize and plan work, keep accurate records communicate and cooperate with coworkers.
16. Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
17. Other related duties as assigned for the overall purpose of the program.
